Digital Literacy Programme

Digital literacy is an essential pillar of 21st-century education. While many schools across the country are building their capacity in this area, access to quality digital learning remains limited due to gaps in curriculum and infrastructure.

The Digital Literacy Programme is designed to empower students with the necessary skills and resources to succeed in a digital world.

About the programme

It is near impossible to imagine functioning without a computer or a smartphone in today’s times. Yet, many children in government schools lack access to digital education. DMart Foundation sees a powerful opportunity to change this through the Digital Literacy Programme, helping students build their competency and become informed digital users. This programme envisions equal access to technology for all students.

The Digital Literacy Programme is active across 10 municipal corporations in Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Pune, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Kolhapur and Nashik. It equips students with essential computer skills to become more digital-ready and access online learning.

Each lab is staffed with two dedicated teachers, ensuring appropriate teacher-student ratio to support effective learning. All the plans and curriculum are developed in-house, backed by adequate research. Procurement, maintenance and servicing of all hardware and software is handled by an efficient team, to ensure a seamless and impactful educational experience.

Implementing Digital Literacy Programme

  • Building the Infrastructure: DMart Foundation sets up fully functional computer labs in schools. Each lab is equipped with up to 21 computers, a TV screen, headphones and high-speed internet access. There is also a backend team which is deployed to ensure that all the computers are up and running all the time.
  • Skilled Educators: A team of over 220 teachers and supervisors delivers the programme with 2 teachers placed in each school. These educators receive ongoing training to ensure effective knowledge transfer.
  • Interactive Curriculum: The foundation team has designed a grade wise BGIC (Basics, Google Workspace, Internet and Coding) curriculum for students from grades 1 to 10. The programme incorporates creative and interactive modules to teach soft skills that will help children find jobs in the 21st century, in addition to computer skills. These skills include communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creative thinking.

Logging in for a positive impact

Digital learning concepts are taught in a creative, interactive way, making the programme engaging and enjoyable for students. These concepts are taught by connecting their usage in the real world, helping children understand the relevance of what they learn.

Digital Pulse, a school-level event, started in 2023, showcasing students’ digital skills and celebrating their learning journey. Now an annual feature, this event brings together parents, teachers, students and education department officials, highlighting the growing impact of the programme across schools.
